Footbridge Holešovice – Karlín

Prague, Czech Republic
Competition design 2017
We are the authors of the design for the Holešovice–Karlín footbridge over the Vltava River in Prague, which we developed for a public architectural and structural competition.

The cable-stayed footbridge over the Vltava River is supported by a dominant pylon, which carries the deck via a network of stay cables and becomes a clear landmark on the river. The pylon, located on Štvanice Island, divides the bridge span into 113 meters towards Karlín and 190 meters towards Holešovice. Its straddled and single-kinked form rises 75 meters above the island’s surface. The bridge deck follows a curved alignment both in plan and elevation, with the cables placed on its inner side. The footbridge connects at grade to the embankments on both the Karlín and Bubny sides. On Štvanice, it is accessed via a circular ramp and a staircase.
