Footbridge across the Ostravice River

Frýdek-Místek, Czech Republic
Implementation 2009
We are the authors of the concept for the footbridge and all subsequent stages of the project documentation for the construction permit (DÚR, DSP) and the tender documentation. We also prepared the implementation documentation for the contractor.

The bridge deck of the footbridge has been structurally designed as a stress ribbon, with a theoretical sag in the midspan of 0.575 m. The deck consists of supporting cables made of Monostrands injected in stainless steel tubes, which support and prestress the bridge deck, which is made of precast concrete segments. The stress ribbon is anchored into the abutments located in the Ostravice River embankments and on the inner supports it smoothly passes over the saddles of the piers located on the berms of the river bed. The structure is fully integrated and designed without bearings or expansion joints. Large horizontal forces are anchored to the ground at the abutments by a system of vertical drilled piles and inclined ground anchors.
