Footbridge across the Vltava River

České Budějovice, Czech Republic
Competition design 2024, Second place
We are the authors of the design for a footbridge over the Vltava River near the exhibition grounds in České Budějovice, which was awarded second place in a public architectural and structural competition.

The fundamental concept of the design is to respect the flow of the Vltava River and the planned recreational function of the future Sun Island. This determined the need to place the footbridge without any interventions into the river or the island. The core idea is developed into an arched structure with a lower deck, where the central arch divides the deck into two halves, allowing for mixed movement of cyclists and pedestrians. The bridge is designed to align with the riverside pedestrian path on the left bank and the ramp connection from the cycle path on the right bank. The urban character of the bridge is enhanced by interior-style evening lighting.
